DINOSAUR - Renamed to
coincide with the 2000 movie " Dinosaur" , this attraction was originally known
as Countdown To Extinction. Only the name has changed, it's still a great
thrill adventure, a kind of updated " Indiana Jones and The Temple of The
Forbidden Eye" , but a lot more physical! As the official blurb says " Dodge
dangerous dinosaurs and face the fury of flaming meteorites as you journey back
65 million years to save the last dinosaur in this thrill-packed attraction." .
That says more than I could. It's worth going over to Dinoland USA just for
this! Remember to check your picture at the attraction exit - they are all
hysterical!

The Boneyard - " Slip,
slither, slide and crawl through this dig site play-maze built from the remains
of vanished giants. Fun for children of all ages." That's what the guide map
says anyway. It's basically a big 'ole sand-pit where kids can dig up dinosaur
bones and have a paleontological lesson without realising it.. The ones I saw
playing were absolutely enthralled. All the fun and technology of Walt Disney
World and the kids end up loving a sand pit. There's a lesson for us all
there.

You'll also learn about the evolution of a dig site and meet up with a Chinese
alligator, a Florida soft-shelled turtle and a red-legged seriama. Give me
puppies and kittens any day.

Dinosaur Jubilee - This is
a great exhibition of some of the greatest discovered dinosaur specimens ever
discovered in North America. It's rarely busy, and it's all cool and shaded and
completely fascinating.

Tarzan Rocks! - This great
show replaced the fabulous " Journey Into Jungle Book" which was plagued with
technical problems. However, this is no shoddy " fill-in" production. This is a
high quality concert featuring the songs from the Tarzan movie. We are talking
Broadway quality talent here, from the band to the performers. Don't miss it
(you'll need to arrive at least 30 minutes before the show time printed in your
guide map. Don't be put off by the size of the lines, the 'Theater in the Wild'
has a vast auditorium and can accommodate everbody).

RESTAURANTS AND
REFRESHMENTS
- Restaurantosaurus -
Character breakfasts (Donald's Prehistoric Breakfastosaurus) until 10.30, then
burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches salads and McDonald's fries. Also McDonald's
Happy Meals and McDonald's Chicken McNuggets. McDonalds? What on earth is
happening to the special place that Walt built? The special place that was
supposed to make us forget about the outside world seems to be getting more and
more like the outside world every year. Disney, you need to think very
carefully about what you're doing to Walt's Dream.
(NOTE: I was pleased to see in June 2000 that
the MacDonalds logo along with other 'outside world' stuff have been toned
down. It's much more subtle now and an acceptable compromise. Dinoland Snacks,
another MacDonalds outlet has been removed completely. Thanks Disney - just
proves that you do listen!)
- Dino Diner - Smoked turkey
legs and soft drinks.
