Animal Kingdom - An Introduction |
|||||
|
Forget all the bad stuff you've heard about the lack of
attractions, the size of the park and the treatment of wild animals here. Sure,
the park will get bigger, but there's still plenty here to make it well worth a
good long visit. And as for animal cruelty - if I were a captive animal, then
without doubt, this is where I'd want to be. Disney goes out of its' way to
demonstrate to guests that they genuinely care about the animals here (after
all, ill-treated animals are no attraction to cash-bearing guests). A visit to
the Conservation Station will prove to you that these skilled people know
exactly what they're doing, and what they do is good for these animals. Animals
that were already in captivity anyway, in far less salubrious
surroundings. I'm one of the lucky guys who was at the park on opening day. I saw how disappointed the protestors were to discover that there was a distinct lack of cruelty here. Obviously, I'm glad that they were disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love Disney, but I also love animals - I would never condone or turn a blind eye to any form of animal cruelty whatsoever. Don't listen to the 'blown-out-of-proportion' rubbish about animals being run down by trucks. Oddly, they're much safer here than they would be in the wild. Ignore what you've heard about the animals being pawed and groped at by guests - only at the Affection Section are there animals that you can stroke, but these are domesticated animals (goats, sheep etc.) - these animals seem to LOVE the attention, and are constantly watched over by skilled cast members. The animals in the Affection Section could wander off freely to large enclosed sections if they wanted to avoid contact with people. They invariably stick around for a stroke and a cuddle! Sea World sickens me, and I'm sure Shamu's sickened too. But there's no comparison to any park, zoo, reserve or sanctuary you've ever visited before. Whatever you believe, whatever you've heard, please do yourself two favors. Firstly, reserve judgement until you've seen the park for yourself, and secondly make sure you visit the park yourself! This is no zoo or safari park. This is Disney's Animal Kingdom. |
