Hollywood Boulevard/Echo Lake Area Attractions

Disney Radio Studios - You can watch the workings of a real live radio station at The Disney Radio studios. Like the Animation Studios, this is 'fly-on-the-wall' attraction, where we get to be voyeurs! The following networked shows are broadcast every week:
  • The Just Plain Mark and Zippy Show - weekdays from 4pm to 9pm - broadcast on the Radio Disney Network.
  • Super Gold with Mike Harvey - This is an oldies show broadcast on Saturdays from 7pm to 12 midnight on the Westwood One Radio Network.
  • Remember to check the studios for visiting stations' programmes - there's nearly always something going on.

ABC Sound Studio featuring " One Saturday Morning" - As the guide map says " A wild and wacky sound effects show'. This is a very funny hands-on show where members of the audience are responsible for producing the sound effects for a choice of films. At the moment, guests are providing sound effects for " 101 Dalmations - The Animated Series" and even for ABC's Saturday morning cartoon lineup. It's fascinating fun!

ATAS Hall of Fame - An outdoor gallery featuring likenesses of the honorees of Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Be sure to take your camera for some superstar pictures.

Star Tours - Board your runaway Star-Speeder for George Lucas's popular Star Wars simulator ride through space. Identical to all other Star Tours attraction in the other parks (except Paris - where it's in French), and it's easy too see why it's so popular. You mustn't miss this one.

SuperStar Television - A brilliant attraction where we get to see how sit-coms are made. Some lucky guests will get the chance to appear in classic scenes from 'I Love Lucy', 'Cheers', 'The Golden Girls', 'Home Improvement' and more! Another highly recommended attraction, and another great air-conditioned sit-down!

The Great Movie Ride - No trip to MGM is complete without taking in this attraction. It's inside the Chinese Theatre and guests are taken, via audio-animatronics, through classic scenes from " Casablanca" , " Raiders of the Lost Ark" , " Alien" , " Tarzan" , " Singin' In The Rain" , and many others. Not to mention the incredible visit to Oz to see the Munchkins and The Wicked Witch of The West. There's a fabulous movie finale too. This attraction should be compulsory!

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at The Disney MGM Studios
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular - Take your seat in the theatre an watch an entire life-sized movie unfold before you. In this adventure, airplanes explode and villains are shot. There's some great stuff here, but I don't want to spoil it for you. If you're lucky, you could even be an extra in the show!

  • Mickey's of Hollywood - The main MGM department store (equivalent to The Emporium in The Magic Kingdom). This store can get incredibility busy at park closing time, so you'd be well advised to visit before park closing!
  • Movieland Memorabilia- Another small shop selling Disney souvenirs.
  • Sid Cahuenga's One-Of-A-Kind - One of my favourite stores. Antiques and curios from some of the best known movies and movie stars. Original autographed photos and memorabilia from the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and even Elvis. As you can imagine, these come in at quite some hefty amount of dollars, but they're great just to look at too. The store also sells very affordable movies posters and cards etc. with a selection of stock extending well beyond Disney and MGM, this is a real gem of a store.
  • Oscar's Classic Car Souvenirs - Automotive memorabilia. You can also hire strollers and wheelchairs here.
  • The Darkroom - Kodak's camera and camera consumables store at MGM.
  • Cover Story - Here you can have your picture splashed across the cover of a famous magazine. You can choose from many major magazines, and make use of some great props and costumes. Clever stuff.
  • Celebrity 5 & 10 - A large store which sells film industry memorabilia. Everything from a clapperboard to a plastic Oscar.
  • Sweet Success - A very addictive candy store.
  • L.A. Prop Cinema Storage - Children's Disney fashions.

Restaurants
RESTAURANTS AND REFRESHMENTS
  • Hollywood and Vine " Cafeteria Of The Stars" - A 1950's diner style counter-service restaurant. Serving roast chicken, ribs, pasta and salads for lunch. There's also a dinner and breakfast menu. Not bad at all and there's plenty of seating.
  • 50's Prime Time Café - Again, a 1950's feel, but designed to be like a sit-com kitchen - very " I Love Lucy" . The serving staff (it's a table-service restaurant) play great parts too, with the waitresses playing 'Mom' and insisting that you " eat up, or no dessert" . Other servers play 'Brother' or 'Sis' and sit right beside you telling tales to 'Mom' about your table manners - especially if you don't eat everything. It really is a fun place to eat, the actor/servers sound more annoying than they actually are.
  • Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream Of Extinction- Ice cream store at the life-sized dinosaur at the edge of Echo Lake.
  • Echo Lake Produce - Healthy fresh fruit and beverages.
  • Echo Lake Café - Pasta, salads and huge sandwiches, but only open during the busy season.
  • Tune-In Lounge - Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in this bar/lounge. The Streetmosphere players also frequent the bar, so watch out!
  • Starring Rolls Bakery - Muffins, pastries, croissants and other baked goodies. Tea, coffee and soft drinks too.
  • Sunset Ranch Market - A collection of food stalls including:
    • Rosie's Red Hot Dogs - Chilli, fries and hot dogs
    • Catalina Eddie's - Soft-serve yogurt and beverages
    • Anaheim Produce - Fresh fruit and ice-cold beverages
  • Min and Bill's Dockside Diner - Tacos, snacks and beverages
