River Country

The park last operated in November 2001.  On January 20th 2005, The walt Disney Company that River Country would be closed permanently.  We've left it here on the site as a nostalgic reminder of what was, after all, the world's first ever fully themed water park.

Nestled inside of Fort Wilderness, River Country is a relaxing water spot right out of the pages of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Just kick back and soak in all the fun of a down-home good time with water rides, sandy beaches, and beautiful nature trails. With its grassy grounds surrounding a secluded cove, River Country is where you'll find the perfect combination of a lazy day at the lake and water thrills for the whole family. Built in 1976, River Country was Disney's first and so is the most nostalgic of the water parks with a very comfortable " folksy/woodsy" feel.
